I want to start this newsletter with some dark news that has been on my mind. This week, there were two mass shooting events in my area, one in Capitol Hill two days ago, and one in Seattle Center at what was meant to be a joyous community and food event yesterday. My thoughts go out to all the families effected, and I have been feeling deeply sad to see gun violence darken the doorstep of my community again after years of declining homicide rates. I hope the murderers face justice and our city does something to get these weapons out of the hands of people who clearly shouldn't have them.

What I've Been Up To

This section will be quite brief, as honestly it's been a quiet week for me. Perhaps I am letting down the Field Reporter title a bit, but I haven't really done much reporting. I spent the week focusing more on job applications (again), after about a month of getting demoralized from another round of being Ghosted by Corporationsâ„¢.

Saturday Hijinks

There was, however, one very action packed Saturday in the CID, where Carmen and I went to the CID Food Walk, and then a fun community event at Ahn Oi Bake shop called Saigon Radio Cafe. I, through incredibly bad journalistic practice did not take a single photo at the event, but I assure you it was very fun!! I did get a photo of a small sign for it they had at the food walk, so behold.

Community Highlight

Just want to shout out Monsoon District run by all around cool kid Thien, who showed up and set up a whole booth at the radio cafe event. He does fashion design and his stuff is extremely cool! Just came out with this plum blossom camo hoodie which I am tempted by, but you know it's the middle of summer so I'll wait for now. ( am i cool enough to wear camo, idk. i think i may be too old, crazy how camo is cool now anyways? like i thought it was what you wore for killing things... the way culture reclaims kind of evil stuff is mindblowing sometimes )

I am an Instagram hater through and through but I got him to join Bluesky so maybe if enough people follow him and tag him saying "lemme buy some clothes" he'll be swayed to use it more idk. Otherwise *big sigh*, you can follow him on Instagram.

After the food walk and Radio Cafe, we went to some flea market, but we weren't there very long, which was great for me because I don't really get vintage markets. (why not just go to a thrift store? they sell the same stuff for cheaper!)

Sunday Farmer's Market

I love to wander around the Cap Hill Farmer's market on Sundays. Deep down I think I am hoping one day I can stumble into a Wake Up Seattle Episode. Not this week, though, as they were at the Gullet Stuffer event at Grocery Outlet instead!! Every time I think Alex is gonna zig, they zag!!q

uh, anyways! Farmer's market is always cool, sampled some weird hops cofermented coffee from Kairu Coffee and then tried some goat milk caramel which was probably good if you like goat milk, but I forgot I REALLY HATE IT (oops).

Highlight of the farmer's market was 100% chatting with the unofficial sales friend of Cool Art Store, an extremely prolific local artist with some of the cutest / most deranged art pieces I have ever seen. A winning combination, in my book. Here are some of their finest works in my opinion (all images taken from their shop, go buy something)

Heely Practice

Other than these two outings, and a few smaller personal events with friends (we had an Olive Party this weekend, iykyk), it's been a very boring week. All of my free time I have spent either practicing flying FPV drones in the simulator (I've gotten pretty good, good enough that it's starting to be a relaxing experience instead of like fighting for my life to not crash the little guy), or heelying around my area. Even when I'm not "practicing", I've just been wearing them around, you never know when you'll encounter a smooth little bit of sidewalk and can just go crazy mode (respectfully).

I'm getting steadily better, learned to roll over bigger cracks by lifting up my front foot, still have a huge disparity in strength between legs, though, which makes switching between them feel super awkward.

What's Coming Up

I checked the Visit Seattle calendar and they said nothing is happening this week, so I guess that's it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯... JK IT IS TIME TO CONSULT MY SECRET SOURCES (why does this site exist if there's like nothing on it except for major major museum events?)

Seattle Tech Week is happening, which honestly I know very little about, it seems to be run by a local VC firm (Madrona) and there's lots of blowing smoke about AI stuff. I am sure there will be some cool events though, the calendar has a bunch of stuff going on. Special shout out to INTDEV, who's having an afterparty, which knowing them will be the best event of the entire tech week thing.

Other than that I found

Other than that, I'm not sure! I am sure there's lots of fun stuff happening, but it's so scattered, a lot of it is on Instagram, which is frankly a horrible place to track events. I would love to organize my own calendar and accept submissions for cool events people know about more easily.   • Liftoff : Micro Drones has been the simulator I've been learning to fly on, mainly because my goal is to fly really small light quadcopters that aren't as scary as the big serious camera ones. I've just finished a race on every map and gotten a 1% achievement. Feel very accomplished tbh, a week ago I was on Velocidrone and just flying my drone directly into the ground every time.

  • Hoping this doesn't turn out to be vaporware but this company Augmental just released a quite amazing piece of accessibility tech that lets you control smart devices with your tongue like a mouse.
