Well, it's been another week. I am surprised that the leaves continue to cling to the trees, giving Seattle its somewhat poorly regarded but in my opinion still quite spectacular, autumn color.

What I've Been Up To

Monday evening girlgoose and I went to AMC Pacific Place to watch "You Can See Everything" . What a movie. For the first half or so I was like "huh, this is pretty tame" and then the second half was absolute madness. I love hearing people's takes on this movie, and if you have seen it and want to join a bluesky group chat of people who were traumatized by the film, let me know!

For those of you who are real goose enthusiasts, you may remember this post, where I shared an image of my anker charger that puffed up and broke its casing, leaving me with a small potential bomb in the making:

I was pretty stressed out about this, since it was right before my Port Townsend trip, but I put it in between two concrete plant pots and left it on the balcony, and was fortunate that it didn't explode while I was gone. I ended up being pretty busy Monday, so Tuesday I took my spicy pillow sandwiched between two plant pots, stuck it in my bag, and got on the light rail to Pinehurst, which quite luckily for me had just opened a light rail station1. The station itself has a nice squeaky clean feeling, which is slightly undercut by the entire thing rumbling with the noise of hundreds of cars passing right next to it on the freeway every second. Anyways, I got off the train and bravely trekked like 20 minutes or so to the hazardous waste disposal facility, where a very friendly lady took my incendiary device away from me. Apparently it's mostly a drive-through, which makes sense because the entire Pinehurst-adjacent area is basically loud roads full of pickup trucks. I was pleasantly surprised while walking that there were bike lanes for some of the way. On my way back, I will say I discovered my favorite thing about Pinehurst. They have a curling place! I have never seen a place where you do curling before. I watch it in the Olympics with great enthusiasm and assumed every curler just went up to Canada to practice or something.

Here are a few pictures from my journey. If you have any lithium batteries, chemical solvents, or other hazardous waste to dispose of, I highly recommend checking out the northern waste disposal facility! Might be nice to bike there, though, it's a bit of a slog walking all the way by the road.

Wednesday was mostly just working, did a little walk with girlgoose to drop off our ballots! Nothing makes me feel patriotic and especially love Seattle like dropping off my ballot in these boxes. Its so nice and easy compared to in NYC where you need to queue up at a school gymnasium. My biggest complaint, in case King County Elections is reading this, is that we didn't get stickers this year. Big sad, I wish we had sticker design contests like they do in other states, but I guess that's the price you pay for super easy drop off voting. Also, did another Mahjong night2, I have not been doing very well at these, my friends are too cracked. You can see my 10,000 point stick disappears between the two photos, which is Not Good™️.

Friday, I went to Trader Joes to get groceries, but was feeling a sort of overwhelming sense of ennui, perhaps due to summer ending, perhaps due to *frantically gesticulates* the state of the world, so I ended up going for a bit of a neighborhood walk. I was hungry so I got an Aloo Tikki Chaat for $5.50 from Spice Waala (one of the best deals you can get on snack food in Seattle imo), and walked about 80% of the way to Trader Joes before remembering I had heard that Fuel Coffee re-opened as a new cafe called "Inkling". I decided to go check it out.

Community Highlight: Inkling Cafe!

Turns out my little detour was very justified, as Inkling Cafe is great! They definitely maintained a lot of the same interior design as the old Fuel Coffee on 19th, but the space feels totally different with all the art stuff there. The walls that used to be full of books now have both books and art supplies, and there are free art supplies you can use to doodle while you are at the cafe. It's a really calm, inviting space that I am glad exists. When I told girlgoose I went, she wanted to go, and we've now gone twice. I think it's really nice to have a place you can go where there are materials for self expression like this. They even have a free postcard station, where you can draw a postcard and they will stamp it and send it for you! It's a grea place and I look forward to visiting more often. /

Anyways, eventually I did get back to Trader Joes. What a place. Where else in Seattle can you choose from not 1, not 2, but EIGHT different types of $4 wine? A modern miracle.

Saturday, I was supposed to do my Arboretum walk, but basically was kept up all night by PERCY GOING NUTS, so I ended up cancelling it in a sleep-deprived haze at like 3am. Sorry to anyone who intended to join, I was, as they say, in sicko mode. Once I caught up on sleep (maybe woke up at 11 or something?), I had a pretty good day. It was girlgoose's birthday (everyone comment HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRLGOOSE or incur 10 years of bad luck), so I tried to make it fun. We went to inkling cafe and doodled for a while. I drew this little guy gathering power.

Afterwards, we tried out this Thai noodle place I walked by on my wandering adventures called RUAM. The space was extremely nice and cleanly designed, but I can't say much good about the food itself. It was okay, and pretty expensive. They also were doing a thing where if you reviewed them on google maps they gave you free soft serve, but then the waitress said it had to be five stars, which I think is dishonest and kind of scummy. I would rate them 4 stars, but this made me think more like three. Also, we were sitting next to the soft serve machine, and maybe this was just a temporary thing, but every couple of minutes it would start ROARING, which lasted a while and was extremely distracting, so I can't really imagine anyone having a good time while that's still going on.

Walking home, we saw this cool wall.

Got hotpot at Happy Lamb in the CID for girlgoose birthday dinner! It was fun. Fun fact you get a free AYCE hotpot on your birthday if you come with a group of 4 or more, so I suggested we do the math on whether we save money doing all you can eat or a la carte. Girlgoose said "no way we spend $140 to make it worth it". Well in the end, we spent $140.07 on the a la carte (for five people). I laughed so hard when I saw the check, we could have saved a tuppence and a nickel.

Sunday, I lost somewhat at poker, though not especially badly, I ended up down about $3 of a $4 buy in, but up in friendship because got me this print.

I Saw the Signs
